  1. What does Vindicia CashBox do?

    CashBox is our SaaS billing solution. CashBox optimizes customer acquisition and retention, and our clients have the option of tightly integrating it with CashBox StoreFront. This gives our clients additional flexibility to handle promotions, manage offers, and transact globally through various business models. Unlike alternative billing and marketing solutions, you retain ownership of your customer data. This allows you to maximize the reach of your brand and marketing programs. CashBox also has a built-in global sales tax engine, gateway, fraud screen and chargeback management support, so you don’t have to purchase those extra services.

  2. Who should use Vindicia?

    Merchants that sell digital goods or services and need a scalable, flexible and secure SaaS billing solution should use CashBox. Our CashBox solution supports multiple business models, from subscriptions and microtransactions, to one time purchases and even hybrid models. CashBox also drives up revenue for online merchants through the proprietary and built-in Advanced Payment Logic.

  3. My payment processor and/or gateway say they handle recurring billing and fraud prevention, how is this different from what you offer?

    With recurring billing and fraud management, there are many levels of service that can be provided. Payment processors and gateways typically provide generic services for fraud management and have basic support for recurring billing transactions. However, [our] CashBox subscription billing product offers superior functionality to allow for Advanced Payment Logic, seamless Account Updater integration, and localized customer communication emails.

  4. Do I need a merchant account with a payment processor?

    Yes, CashBox serves as a billing platform and gateway for the most popular payment processors. Our merchants maintain control over their relationship with their payment processors and give us permission to submit transactions on their behalf.   5. How does tax engine work?

    Our solution comes with a built-in global tax solution that is capable of handling VAT, GST, and of course U.S.-based sales tax. Our tax engine automatically calculates tax based on customer location and the taxable status of items. It can also handle necessary tax exemptions by ID and provides key reporting information to enable compliance with necessary international and interstate tax districts.

    CashBox supports many methods to help your acquisition: from promotion management, to packaging and bundling products, or up-selling and cross-selling. This is in addition to including the most popular payment methods and being able to conduct business in every global region, in localized languages and currencies. Finally, we apply our billing and marketing best practices to your business model to help you drive higher acquisition and revenue.

Merchants can also use CashBox to send email notifications to customers who are about to either end their free trial (reminding them they will be billed with the details) as well as customers who are about to reach the end of their subscription (offering a chance to up-sell or cross-sell to another offering).

    CashBox StoreFront enables online merchants to support the full customer acquisition, management, billing and retention cycle for digital content and services.   3. Can I buy CashBox StoreFront without purchasing CashBox?

    No, merchants interested in CashBox StoreFront must also purchase CashBox. CashBox is the underlying SaaS solution that manages the billing and retention of customers who buy products, content and services offered, promoted and displayed through StoreFront.

  4. If I'm an existing CashBox client, can I get StoreFront?

    Yes, existing CashBox clients can purchase CashBox StoreFront.

    Yes, you can certainly use your own storefront, whether homegrown or a packaged application that will integrate via our APIs to CashBox.

  1. How does fraud-screening work within CashBox?

    CashBox uses a number of techniques to screen for fraud. We use IP geolocation, proxy detection, BIN validation, an address verification service, and black/white lists. Additionally, because we have hundreds of millions of transactions in our system, we’re able to cross-reference data across our network of merchants to determine probabilities for a potential fraudulent transaction.

  2. What are Vindicia’s fraud management capabilities for digital merchants vs. fraud management capabilities for merchants of tangible goods?

    For digital merchants, the cost of a fraudulent transaction is significantly lower than the cost of a false positive. The risk scoring inside of CashBox is able to calculate the overall probable risk of chargeback for each transaction throughout the screening process. We help our merchants strike that delicate balance of fraud screening allowing for an aggressive customer acquisition strategy while still managing fraud to appropriate levels.

  3. What is the difference between true fraud and friendly fraud?

    True fraud is where fraud is committed with malicious intent. For example, when a credit card is stolen and then used to make unauthorized purchases, it is considered true fraud.

    Friendly fraud is where a customer uses their credit card to purchase a good or service, and then issues a chargeback for that transaction. This could either be deliberate or accidental. Often times, the customer may not recognize the charge on their credit card statement, thus resulting in a chargeback.

  4. How does Vindicia manage chargebacks?

    We work with our merchants to strike a balance between customer acquisition and their chargeback rates. We accomplish this through our CashBox ChargeGuard solution using fraud screening for an upfront chargeback probability score and dispute resolution, which involves automation and leverages Vindicia’s Client Services Team.

  5. How does Vindicia win chargebacks?

    We have a dedicated team that analyzes and fights chargebacks on behalf of our clients. We look at a number of factors to determine if a chargeback is friendly fraud or true fraud. Many chargebacks are friendly fraud and winnable if you have the right resources.

    Yes. Vindicia supports virtual currencies as well as micropayments used with those virtual currencies.

    Yes, CashBox supports all types of in-game transactions including the explicit puchase of virtual currency and/or the spending of that virtual currency on specific items. Vindicia can support a wide variety of business models in the context of the in-game transactions across a global set of actual currencies .

    CashBox supports a broad range of payment methods including credit cards, signature debit cards, ACH, PayPal, pre-paid cards, and regional payment methods such as Boleto Bancario in Brazil and European Direct Debit. We continually expand this list based on client requests and as additional new payment methods become relevant.

  4. Can Vindicia accept international currencies?

    Yes. We accept currencies from every global region, and the CashBox Global Tax Engine is capable of calculating and handling global taxes including various US state tax regimes as well as VAT, HST, and others.

  5. Can Vindicia support parent-child accounts for kid-based virtual worlds and games where parents pay for the account(s)?

    Yes, Vindicia provides native support for parent-child accounts with CashBox.

    Yes, CashBox can handle print/digital bundles in which customers are entitled to both a digital subscription as well as access to a physical product where CashBox would integrate with a fulfillment center to distribute that fulfillment product.

  1. How do virtual currencies work?

    A virtual currency is a currency designed for games, online communities, online content, social networks or dating sites. It is purchased by using real money and redeemed by purchasing virtual items involved with games, communities, content or social sites.

  2. What are microtransactions and how can they save me money?

    Microtransactions are low dollar-value transactions. Visa defines a microtransaction as anything less than $20. However, with the rise of virtual items and paying for online content, this amount has been lowered to transactions of $1 or less. This type of transaction increases transaction fees and increases cost to merchants. Using virtual currency and integrating eWallet technology to bundle customer purchases into larger transactions can lower your transaction costs, saving you money.

  3. How do virtual currencies help save merchants money?

    Virtual currencies lower transaction costs for merchants. Merchants can sell higher value blocks of virtual currency that can be used for bundles of microtransactions, instead of processing real currency for each individual microtransaction. This lowers the number of transactions you are paying to process, while also increasing the amount spent by your customer.

  4. What is an eWallet, and will this technology help me save money?

    An eWallet is much like an actual wallet—it keeps your customer’s currency in a bundled virtual form and allows them to purchase virtual goods with this virtual currency. This way, you can process a single larger transaction versus processing multiple smaller transactions. This gives customers the opportunity to pay you a larger amount and then decide what to buy with the credits later. Integrating eWallet technology will save you a lot in processing fees for transactions under $10. CashBox supports eWallets and can manage your customers’ balances.

  5. Does Vindicia support virtual currencies, eWallets, and micro transactions?

    Yes. We support virtual goods, in-game currency or tokens, microtransactions, and easily increment and decrement inventory levels based on the Vindicia Token Engine .

  1. How does Vindicia protect our customer’s data?

    Vindicia takes privacy very seriously and is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant and audited for SSAE-16 (formerly SAS-70) compliance. We also have backup servers off-site in the event of a natural disaster or unforeseen circumstance.

  2. What is PCI compliance and SSAE-16 (formerly SAS-70)?

    Being PCI compliant means compliance with Payment Card Industry standards. The Payment Card Industry set up Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) to help PCI organizations processing card payments in preventing credit card fraud. Organizations dealing with sensitive credit card numbers and information must be PCI compliant.

    SSAE-16 (formerly SAS-70) is an auditing statement providing guidelines to service auditors when auditing internal controls of a service organization. Because we use strong encryption protocols certified to FIPS 140-2, and we are SSAE-16 (formerly SAS-70) audited, it eases Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for our merchants.

  3. How does Vindicia guard against unauthorized access to your customer’s data?

    Vindicia provides role-based access control to the portal so that different people have access to different capabilities. For example, customer service representatives may be able to update customer billing information but will not be able to edit billing plans.

  4. How will Vindicia use our customer’s data?

    We will use your customers’ data primarily for calculating ROI and business reviews for you. This information will help you and us find ways to increase your customer acquisition and retention which will in turn create longer customer lifetime value and higher revenues for you.

  5. How do I migrate to your service if I’m not PCI compliant?

    We allow for data migration through a bulk data import or through our API. In this case, as the merchant, you would need to work with your current PCI compliant solution to verify the data can be transferred. (Remember, while some companies don’t allow this we believe your data is yours and allow transfers to other PCI compliant solutions if needed.) If the data can be transferred, we will work with you to get your customer data transferred into our system, and have done so with numerous clients.

    A gateway provides a connection to a merchant's payment processor. CashBox has a built in gateway so you don’t have to purchase a separate gateway service.

  5. Which payment processors does CashBox support today?

    Vindicia supports Chase Paymentech, First Data, Global Collect, Litle, and Merchant e-Solutions, in addition to alternative payment methods such as PayPal and Incomm pre-paid cards.
